Nowify 2.0.0 is built using Vue, which has made the reactive nature of Nowify much more pleasant to build. This time round, I've gone sleek and official. In my previous post, I opted for a Waveshare screen and a custom Frame, which I think was a nice choice.
This time around, the steps (and my instructions) are much more clear. The setup in the original version was way too long-winded and has become quickly outdated.

I've added instructions to the repository of how to get set up. Nowify is a small app designed for the Raspberry Pi which uses the Spotify API to display your currently playing track in real-time.

Today, I released a 2.0.0 update to Nowify to the repository! Check out the code here. As my Javascript knowledge progressed, rewriting Nowify was always something on my agenda. I appreciate these messages loads, and always feel guilty when I have to reply with a sort of 'well the thing is, this is old and not written great, that's on me' response. I released the code on GitHub and even wrote a blog post about it.įast forward to 2021, I still get occasional messages about setting up Nowify and the struggles people run into. At the time, I thought I did fairly well. Once they're turned on, you'll see lyrics in the "now playing" view by default.In June 2018, I set out to improve my Javascript knowledge by building something that interested me: a Spotify Now Playing Screen for the Raspberry Pi. In the TV app, look to the lyrics button in the right corner of the "now playing" view and select whether you want to enable lyrics. On Spotify's desktop app, click on the microphone icon from the "now playing" bar. To share specific lyrics from that song on social media, tap the "share" button at the bottom of the lyrics screen and highlight the lyrics to share on a platform you choose. Lyrics to that song will scroll in sync with the music.
To find lyrics on Spotify's mobile app, tap open the "now playing" view on a song and swipe up from the bottom on the screen while listening.

Lyrics will be available on Apple and Android mobile devices, desktop computers, smart TVs (including Android TV, Fire TV, Samsung, Roku, LG, Sky, and Comcast) and gaming consoles (including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and XBox One). With the global rollout Thursday, Spotify listeners everywhere will be able access the words to the song they're hearing without having to go hunting for them on their own. Until now, lyrics were a Spotify product feature only in India, Latin America and Southeast Asia. But while many Spotify users would have to jump out of its app to find the words to the song they were listening too, lyrics were pro forma features of rival streaming services.
